SJ: Many Milestones Measured #BlueMoon25

SJ 4Chief Firestarter at SoulProviders, Sarah-Jane Boden, first joined forces with Blue Moon in 1998 and our paths have been crossing ever since…

SJ’s message in 2010 for Blue Moon’s 21st Birthday:

I could go on and write a full script about how in 1998 I left Durban in my skorokoro with my mattress on my roof heading for the big smoke with nothing in my pocket but a piece of paper on which I had scrawled Blue Moon, Witkoppen Offramp, through Fourways, past horses, long empty fields, 4 way stop; turn right, ring at brown gate and ask for Carl… with a warning…’Don’t mind Tango’.

Or I could also talk about how, at this creative company that projected video onto waterfall and built stages on swimming pools, my initiation was as an assistant on a corporate video shoot at a chicken slaughter house that put me off chicken… for a year.

At Blue Moon I formed my first friendships in Jozi, shook Thabo Mbeki’s hand, had a moment with Nelson Mandela, laughed with Lebo Mathosa, admired Lebo Mashile, was a backing dancer dressed like Mzekezeke (believe that), booked flights for John Barker, hung on every word of Claire Stopford’s, sourced over 1000 djembe drums, made SJ 1music for Sue Pam Grant and had a crush on Kabelo…

Or I could do a one-woman bare-set minimal props musical live poetry industrial theatre piece… with moving screens… on the dramas of traffic meetings, the sex lies and videotape of roadshows and the number of farewell parties I had as the prodigal daughter drifting around the world. But instead I’ll just say that I miss Blue Moon, I thank Blue Moon and I will always be a Blue Mooner.

Thank you for letting me be a part of the family and for giving me the freedom and support to pursue my creative dreams, for this I always be thankful. You rock!

 2014: Happy 25th Anniversary! #BlueMoon25

I couldn’t have wished for a better training ground to kick off my career; Blue Moon nurtured and shaped many of the business values I encourage in my team today: damn hard work, the highest attention to detail, mastering one’s creative flair and fine-tuning that to carve a unique space in a vibrant industry, self-discipline, respect for others especially all the incredibly colourful and talented people we worked with and under and learnt from. All the best Blue Moon, to 50 years and beyond!

Love, SJ
